My mind is such a melting pot of ideas that it can often be difficult to remember what came first. I know this coat was influenced by the following:

Oh, and some really cute vintage buttons and a secondhand cotton vest I bought whilst in Canberra.

I love my fleece robe so much, I made another one for my mum. This time the throw was ribbed and didn't have a fringed edge.
As the weather becomes colder, I love to wrap myself up in a cosy blanket. Burdastyle agrees and includes some soft cuddly patterns in the Dec 09 issue. I especially liked this wrapover jacket.

I used a blue POLARVIDE fleece throw from Ikea and I incorporated the edging into the design. (Partly as there wasn't much fabric to spare.) This is the first time I've used a pattern from a magazine, but this was a nice easy one to try.

In a rare moment of self-control, I managed to take a photo of this jumper before I set the scissors on it. It used to look like this.

The plan was to create a wrap around jacket with some buttons. However halfway through I decided to use the old collar as a belt style fastening instead. For those of you who like knowing how things work, here's a rough idea of the dissection and subsequent construction. (Click on picture to enlarge.)

I absolutely love this. It's so simple but effective.
